Longtime Steinberger fan and bassist extraordinaire Michael Rhodes dropped by the Steinberger showroom in Nashville to put the new Steinberger XT-2 Standard Outfit 4-string Bass—in Yin Yan Gloss finish—through its paces.
Rhodes is currently on tour with Epiphone Signature artist Joe Bonamassa (check out Joe's new Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Joe Bonamassa 1958 "Amos" Korina Flying-V Outfit here). And though Bonamassa fans are now well familiar with Rhodes' incredible tone and serious chops, its Rhodes' studio work in Music City over the last 30 years that made him a legend among his peers. Rhodes has been the foundation behind dozens of #1 hits by artists like Dolly Parton, the Dixie Chicks, and Faith Hill as well as slew of equally landmark Nashville LPs including Rosanne Cash's King's Record Shop, Rodney Crowell's Diamonds and Dirt, and Last of the Breed with Merle Haggard, Ray Price, and Willie Nelson.
As you might expect, Rhodes was a keen Steinberger fan back when founder Ned Steinberger released his original instruments in the 1980s and had no trouble finding his way on the new Steinberger Spirit XT-2. "Man, this sounds great!" said Rhodes between alternating runs of funk, pop, and R&B. "When they first came out, they were genius. And this feels great! I prefer a wood body to the polycarbon. What can I say—it's a Steinberger! It's the real deal. And they're practically indestructible. I can't wait to take one home!"
